  • You will receive your report by email.

  • Having purchased a report, a confirmation email will guide you to upload your ESB Networks "30-minute readings in kW" file along with any necessary gas bill data for our analysis.

    We aim to produce your report within 2 business days post the upload of your files. During peak times, the process might take a bit longer. Conversely, during less busy periods, you could potentially receive your report as quickly as 30 minutes!

    Don’t forget to upload your HDF csv file! The upload link will be provided in your purchase confirmation email. Reach out to us if you need help .

  • Switchable Summary Recommendation

    Ranked Electricity or Dual Fuel Tariff Table (THE IMPORTANT BIT!)

  • Yes. You do need a Smart meter to be able to download an HDF file. However, you don’t need to currently be on a “smart” tariff”.

    Your usage data is collected from your smart meter every 30 minutes irrespective of whether you have a “smart” or “standard” tariff.

  • Your Harmonised Downloadable File (HDF) from ESB Networks is unique to your home. It is available to all domestic electricity customers in Ireland irrespective of which energy supplier bills you. This file can be downloaded in a standard .csv format and records your kW electricity import from the grid and export to the grid every 30 minutes. Even if you're not on a smart tariff but do have a smart meter, this file can help Switchable analyze your energy profile and find the best deal.

    To get your HDF:

    Create an online account at ESB Networks here.

    Sign in to your account.

    Click "My energy consumption."

    Select your address to find your MPRN.

    Download the "30-minute readings in kW" HDF (not the kWh file).

    Save the file, which will be in .csv format.

    After purchasing a Switchable report, the confirmation email will guide you on uploading your HDF for analysis.

    A code will be delivered to your selected recipient email address. Your friend, family member, or work colleague, should be delighted with the gift.

    The digital code can be redeemed at checkout. If the value of the gift card does not fully cover the cost of the service that is being purchased, that’s fine. Just pay the balance with a credit or debit card during the secure checkout process.

  • Switchable is independent of all gas and electricity suppliers. Unlike some well-known energy price comparison sites, we do not receive commission from the energy suppliers.

    Switchable uses your data (from the ESB HDF file) and your annual gas usage to find you the best energy deals.

    Switchable runs your data against our comprehensive database of Irish domestic gas and electricity tariffs. We keep this database as complete and up-to-date as possible.

    Remember: ESB Networks delivers your electricity from the grid to your home. Gas Networks Ireland delivers your gas from the grid to your home. They tell your energy supplier how many kWh you have used. Your energy supplier then just sends you the bill based on your usage and the tariff that you have selected (or defaulted to!).
